Prerequisites

There are no training courses required to take a CCIE datacenter certification test. However, there are various trainings and courses available online to prepare a candidate for the qualifying exam. It is expected that Candidates demonstrate a deep understanding of Cisco technologies. Professionals aspiring to achieve CCIE Data Center certifications are also strongly encouraged to work in the field for three to five years before applying for Cisco certification.

Examination overview

The CCIE Data Center certification exam is divided into two parts: the written qualification exam and the hands-on lab exam.

The written exam covers principles and equipment commands involved in packet-based networking infrastructure. This is a prerequisite before a candidate can schedule the CCIE Datacenter lab test. The CCIE Data Center written exam runs for two hours.

After passing the written exam, a candidate can then schedule the lab test. This exam measures a candidate's capability in configuring Cisco operated equipment and run a service provider network. The CCIE Data Center lab exam is time-tested and runs for eight hours. A CCIE Data Center aspirant must schedule the lab test within one and a half years after passing the written exam. If a professional does not pass the lab exam within three years, he/she should retake the written exam to be qualified to take the lab exam once more.

Validity of certification

CCIE qualifications have an expiration date of two years. Keeping your CCIE Data Center certification active means maintaining your commitment to giving the highest level of expertise and professionalism in the IT industry. If a professional does not get recertified within two years, his/her certification is suspended. Every CCIE certification holder has one year to take the exam again, otherwise, he/she would have to start over the whole process of CCIE certification.

For the CCIE certification to remain valid, qualification holders are required to pass the following every 24 months:

• complete and have a passing grade on any current CCIE Written Exam OR CCIE Lab Exam or
• complete and have a passing grade on the current CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or
• complete and have a passing grade on Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview along with the CCAr board review
• CCIE certification automatically extends other Cisco Certifications, such as CCNP or CCNA.
• Candidates could only apply 1 completed and passed written exam towards recertification for every 24 month recertification period.
• Candidates must wait 15 calendar days between attempts at the written exam.
